Big video images are easier than ever

Cybrina in a box? - It's a big box, alright, but it's still one of the most compact and best looking retro systems in a tradeshow booth. Inside is a powerful portable projector shooting onto a revolutionary screen material. Of course, we also work with plasma screens of all sizes.

With video, it's the bigger, the better

The RetroLite shown above is one of our favorite solutions to big screen issues, when you need to get up to 60 inches wide and eye level to those walking by your booth. With this unit, the CHOPS audience can be as much as 10 to 20 feet away, and still interact comfortably with the characters. It has people-stopping power because of its brightness and clarity.

And now there are a variety of wide screen plasma displays available through AV rental companies all around the country. The plasma screens are thin, typically just a few inches, and can be mounted, flown or attached to just about anything. In the past, the 42-in. diagonal screen was the largest available, but now 60-in. screen are turning up everywhere. For character work, they can easily be mounted on one side, in portrait mode, and we adjust the character to fit the dimensions. Any HD or TV format is suitable.

For very large screens, LED panels like the ones used on the Las Vegas strip (outside) can be rented, and video walls are still effective on the tradeshow floor, where people are standing close to the screen. The main issues are clarity, brightness under the ambient lighting and resolution.

These new video display screens seem to be most effective for interacting with small groups, and in all situations, the graphics are striking. The Retrolite's projector handles high res XGA images, so we can run our output at its best quality, without converting it to video output. But since we have the choice, we can also display s-video signals coming from our switcher, where we can overlay the character on top of another video source such as a tape deck, and bring it up on the screen.

We learned one interesting thing about using the mid-sized video screens on the tradeshow floor that is worth remembering. When the color of the aisle carpet and the color of our booth carpet contrasted strongly, people would stand at the edge or border where the two colors met. Very few would cross this imaginary line on the floor, no matter how much we coaxed them or encouraged them. So if you plan to use a plasma screen or Retrolite in your booth with CHOPS, when you order carpet that matches the aisle carpet colors, CHOPS will be more effective.

If you wish, we will put the entire AV package together, using the services of local (if possible) AV rental companies and staging companies. Over the years, we've worked right along side them in major convention cities all around the US and some international cities. We can handle the AV rental end on your behalf, assisting with set-up and operation, reducing the need for I&D labor or a technician, in some cases.
